Nashville, TN—Garth Brooks performed the third and final live concert special of the Garth Brooks: Coast to Coast Live series on CBS last night. While the show took place on the beach in South Padre Island, Texas, which averages 320 sunny days a year, the weather certainly didn’t lend itself to a beach party atmosphere. Gale force winds from earlier in the day calmed only slightly to 20-25 mph during the concert, making the temperature in the low ‘40s feel like freezing, and driving rain mixed with sleet onto the stage, the sound and video equipment, and the 22,000 fans who braved the elements.

Brooks began the concert by admitting that it had almost been cancelled earlier in the afternoon, “until they took me out and I saw people lined up and sleeping in their cars, and I knew we had to make a go of it. I can’t believe you all turned out!”

In spite of the weather’s lack of cooperation, Brooks led the singing, clapping, roaring crowd through over two hours of his hits, one for television and another after the cameras stopped rolling. While nearly 8.8 million television viewers saw performances including “Rodeo,” “Two Pina Coladas,” “Longneck Bottle,” and “The Dance,” concertgoers enjoyed additional songs including “Unanswered Prayers,” “If Tomorrow Never Comes,” “The Beaches of Cheyenne,” and “American Pie.” Steve Wariner and Jerry Jeff Walker joined Brooks as special guests.

The first concert of the Garth Brooks: Coast to Coast Live series aired live from the Forum in Los Angeles on November 14, with special guests Keb’ Mo’ and Trisha Yearwood. Last week’s concert was live on the deck of the USS Enterprise in Norfolk, where Brooks and special guest Jewel entertained crew members and their families.   Home   |   Search PG   |   Guidelines   |   Terms of Use & Privacy
